NEWBURGH, NY — The Orange County NY Arts Council warmly invites the public to join in celebrating the unveiling of Newburgh’s newest public art installation, a vibrant mural honoring the city’s cultural heritage, history, and waterfront community.

The Newburgh Mural Unveiling will take place on February 6 at 2:00 PM at DMU Music Store, located at 86 Broadway in Newburgh, NY.

The mural was designed and hand-painted by Grace Vazquez, a Newburgh–based artist known for her large-scale murals, with fabrication and installation by Fabhaus, a design and fabrication studio located on Liberty Street in Newburgh.

“We’re excited to celebrate this vibrant new mural,” said Amanda Dana, Director of Orange County Tourism and Film. “Thank you to the Campos family and former Legislator Luján for their dedication and collaboration in bringing this project to life.”

The artwork captures the heart of Downtown Newburgh and its iconic waterfront, blending the city’s rich past with its dynamic present. A woman overlooks the landscape, symbolizing the diverse voices, resilience, and cultural heritage that continue to shape Newburgh’s story.

“This mural is a powerful reflection of Newburgh’s identity — past, present, and future,” said Brandi McLendon, Director of Programming & Operations at the Orange County NY Arts Council. “Public art like this not only beautifies our shared spaces, but also tells the stories of the people who live here. We’re proud to support a project that celebrates culture, representation, and community connection.”

The unveiling marks the culmination of the Newburgh Latino Heritage Mural Initiative, begun by DMU Music Store owner Rene Campos and championed by the Campos family and former Orange County Legislator Kevindaryán Luján. The initiative reflects a collaborative effort to uplift Latino heritage through public art in Downtown Newburgh.

The project is supported by Orange County Government funding and delivered in partnership with Orange County Tourism and Film and the Orange County NY Arts Council. Orange County Executive Steven M. Neuhaus, members of the Campos family, and representatives from the Orange County Tourism Office and the Orange County NY Arts Council are expected to attend the unveiling.

The event is free and open to the public.
