It was tough, it was beautiful. I wasn't sure what to expect, but it was a pretty hefty hike, with that said, on a dry day, it never felt dangerous it was just a good scramble with occasional instances where both hands were on rock.
Sep 21, 2025 · Google ReviewThis is sure a fun short trail to do if you don’t have much time. It is definitely a grind but the agony part in the name is a bit exaggerated. It is rightfully categorized hard but if you compare it to Catskills type long steep trails it is not as hard as those. It has some easy fun scramble sections and that’s what initially attracted me to this trail as I love scrambling. It has some nice views on both sides of the ridge. You essentially cross the mountain (don’t know its name) from state highway 17 to orange turnpike - ascend to the top of the ridge, cut across, descend the other side and then come back. What’s cool is that you ascend and descend about the same amount of feet and have to do everything up and down so it’s a very balanced workout if you’re in it for fitness. It has tons of rocky terrain mixed with some forest trail parts and even sort of wild gardens at the top. On the west side you get beautiful views of Harriman State Park overlooking I-87 interstate, state highway 17 and Arden Valley Rd within Harriman that is famous among car enthusiasts for its technical curves and twisty bits. So it is another fun part cause if you like driving you can enjoy Arden Valley Rd between Palisades and state highway 17 before and after your hike. It is seriously one of the most fun roads to drive in the area 🙂
Sep 1, 2024 · Google ReviewBeen working with the New York New Jersey Trail Conference and other volunteers we stated working here last year to fix up the trail for hikers.
Mar 30, 2026 · Google ReviewVery steep rock scramble with a nice view. Pretty treacherous in the fall with all of the leavea on the ground.
Oct 16, 2021 · Google ReviewIt's not nearly as scary as name sounds. It makes you work a little bit, I was easily able to cross it in both directions without a walking stick or other help.
