It's a beautiful location and certainly worth pulling over to see if you're in the area. I will say that the private property signs are a bit foreboding. There was nobody there when we stopped the other day, so I just got out, took a few pictures, and went on my way. We wanted to take a closer look at the historic structures, but didn't want to trespass. Overall, just a bit of a confusing place to visit. There's no historical marker to give even a vague reference as to what you're looking at.

From what I read online, it is a private owned historic site. When I pulled in an old lady told me I have to go through the historic society to get permission. I am passing through and I did not have time to ask permission. Like you have seen in the previous pictures and reviews. There is not much here and there are no plaques to teach you anything. All I can tell you is be a rebel show up,take pictures and enjoy history. If you want to preserve this landmark, reach out to this society.

After having passed by this curious location on the highway too many times to count over the years, we finally made it a point to go out of our way to check out this area. It appears that this place lacks funding for a more educational experience. Not many informational signs outside. We could see some information displayed when we looked through a window in the main building, but could not read it. No staff present and buildings were all locked as a result. One thing that we found really interesting is the metal roofing on one of the buildings. Neither of us had seen roofing of this particular type before.

Right off 17, the cheapest way to get to the real I87. Another 5 miles to Woodbury Common with its incredible Asian food courts No admission fee, and picturesque buildings. But never open, at least while I've been there. If you want to pretend to expertise, go to nearby Wanaque park in New Jersey and then explain that the red stained toilet bowls are the residue of the pervasive bog iron in the region. The iron proved useful for 19th gun founders.
