Washington's Headquarters State Historic Site
General George Washington made this fieldstone farmhouse his Continental Army headquarters and spent more time here than anywhere else during the Revolutionary War. The new exhibit, “Unpacked and Rediscovered” is interactive, showing pieces taken from the museum’s vast collection. In 1850 the property became our nation’s first public historic site. Take the kids for a guided tour. The great lawn overlooking the Hudson River is a wonderful place for a picnic with the family.

Naomi LongWe are so lucky to have such amazing historical locations like this in our backyard. The actual headquarters is under renovation, however the staff have developed a phenomenal slide show presentation that is interactive that gives the visitors a complete "tour" of the house. The museum upstairs has amazing artifacts and historical pieces. You could spend hours investigating each piece. The Tower of Victory during the fall is only open for a brief period weather permitting, we were lucky enough to be able to climb the circular staircase and take in the view of the Hudson and the Headquarters. This a must see for anyone who wants to lean more about George Washington and the very important role Newburgh played in the Revolution.

Al KuehnastDuring our fall trip in 2011, we stopped at Washington's Headquarters, the stone house that served as General George Washington's headquarters during the final years of the Revolutionary War. Perched above the Hudson River, the site offers beautiful views and a fascinating glimpse into American history.

Lisa KingThey have handicapped parking up near the house. I’m not sure if the rest of the facility is ADA. I was to tired walking from the other parking lot this is why I said about the parking first. My granddaughter and I had a wonderful time. The exhibits were wonderful and seemed to tell the good, the bad and the ugly. So it was in all ways a 3-D king if experience. I tour was amazing. I got lots of interior design ideas. It was a cold rainy day but even with that the views were grand! No wonder George and Martha stayed there!

Susan EWell organized museum with many artifacts of the 18th century. There are a lot of interactive kiosks for a self guided tour. Admission fee inexpensive. It is located on beautiful grounds with a lovely view of the Hudson.

Dennis AscienzoUnder-appreciated historical site in the city of Newburgh. It was a shame the Hasbrouck house was under renovation and the statue of George Washington was out for repairs but the significance of this attraction was not diminished. Lovely place to learn about the birth of the country.
